Animal shelter

Animal shelters are publicly or privately funded organisations that provide temporary homes for stray or surrendered pet animals, most often dogs and cats. Dog shelters are called “pounds” in the US. After a time, the animals are either reclaimed by their original owners, adopted by new owners, placed with other organisations, or euthanased.
