Post-operative treatment (in English only)

The patient’s treatment and care immediately following the bypass operation is designed to reduce pain and the risk of infection, and to promote physical exercise and adequate nutrition.

After the operation nutrition is restricted to the intake of various kinds of liquid in limited amounts. During the following weeks solids are introduced and stepped up gradually.

There will remain a lifelong risk of deficiency in vital minerals and vitamins, and therefore various dietary supplements are generally required.
