Obesity Animal models (in English only)

Obesity is defined as a high proportion of fat in the body mass.

In practice it is measured by the so-called Body Mass Index (BMI). This is a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of the person’s height in meters (kg/m2).

BMI above 30 is classified as obesity. BMI of between 25 and 30 is classified as overweight.

Overweight and obesity are major risk factors for non-communicable diseases such as heart disease, type-II diabetes, osteoarthritis and some cancers.
